March 2019 Board Meeting - Notes

Corvidae Press Annual Meeting

Thursday, March 14, 2019 4:30

Present: Margaret, Nancy, Sharon, Dorothy, Treeya, Lauretta

Agenda Item

Since two board members have time conflicts with our current meeting schedule, a decision was made to change it. In order to accommodate everyone, the new Board meeting time will now take place on the third Thursday of the month from 5:30-6:30.

Treasurer’s Report:

Dorothy distributed revised copies of the 2019 Income Projection & Expenses. We now have 24 paid members, 26 overall.

Dorothy researched Corvidae's tax status with representatives of the IRS and a local tax attorney. When Corvidae was incorporated in 2006, it was registered as a for-profit organization with the federal government; however, we have never filed income tax returns. We can apply for non-profit status, but would likely be declined at this time. Starting this year, Dorothy will begin filing tax return 990-EZ (Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax), and eventually we will file for non-profit status.

PDA /Partners:

The February 5 open house of the Fort Worden PDA was cancelled due to weather conditions. A new date of April 2nd, from 2:30-5:30, was suggested. Nancy and Treeya volunteered to host. Corvidae members are encouraged to bring samples of their work, including plates to display in the studio. As a demonstration members are encouraged to print during the open house. Members are also encouraged to be there to help set up, clean up, and answer questions.

Post Office Box

The PDA Partners will provide access to one of their mail boxes. The cost is $80., a one-time fee. The cost of our box at the Post Office is $120. per year. This would save us money and would also be more conveniently located. Board members agreed to switch.

Membership

There are currently 27 paid members and 2 honorary members. Board members discussed the possibility of allowing members to pay in two installments, but decided that it would not be practical.

Workshops

Martha Pfanschmidt has offered to conduct a workshop for us.

An Ink and Drink night was suggested. Activities might include printmaking demonstrations, workshops, or a critique. Our first Ink and Drink night will be held immediately following the next Board meeting.

A printmakers group in Bellingham has offered to collaborate with Corvidae on art shows and workshops.

Print Exchange

Seventeen members have signed up.

Studio Concerns/Updates

A new mat is needed for the middle printing press. All three of our presses need to be cleaned and adjusted.

Todd forwarded an e-mail from an individual in Sequim who has a printing press on offer. Sharon investigated, but the press is not suitable for our studio.

Website Update

Members are encouraged to send Todd pictures from the upcoming PDA meeting. They will be posted on our website.

Meeting adjourned at 5:45.

Next Board meeting: April 18th.

Respectfully submitted,
Lauretta Frost
