Relief printing has intrigued me for over thirty years. Beginning with holiday cards, I quickly found making prints to be a mysterious and satisfying medium. I am equally enthralled with the cascading transformation of initial ideas, the decisions required to achieve the imagined results, and the tactile aspects of using the gouges, inking the brayer and block, and hand rubbing the paper. Making prints inspires me to make more. Since the beginning I have been fascinated by the reduction block method for making multi-colored prints. However, since becoming a member of Corvidae Press this year, I’m learning to use a press and learning to use separate blocks for different colors. My interest in nature (trees in particular) and music and in finding visual ways to express emotions provides most of the subjects for my prints.
