ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My visual artwork—2-d and 3-d—has always explored the poetics of spaces—public and private—revealing the interplay among those spaces and the viewer’s participation in those spaces (visually and, at times, interactively, tactilely, auditorially). Some of my 3-d assemblages (that often incorporate my prints or drawings) have been compared to dimensionalized, visionary worlds—“a three-dimensional William Blake’s alchemy meets a four-dimensional Hieronymous Bosch’s, Remedios Varo’s, and Lenora Carrington’s alchemies.” My prints and mixed media, layered drawings (often transferred to or drawn directly on found/fabricated objects) have been compared to playful, three-dimensional Paul Klee paintings that “make the invisible visible.” The American poet, Wallace Stevens, in speaking of written art, said…”It must give pleasure.” Striving to be as interdisciplinary as possible, my 2-d and 3-d visual art seeks to do the same—give pleasure to a wide range of viewers while giving insights into mysterious, metaphysical meanings and spaces.
